8-DAY CATHOLIC HOLY LAND TOUR

Day 01 -     Tel Aviv / Mediterranean Coast

Upon arrival into Tel Aviv you are met by your local guide and taken to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 02 –    Caesarea / Mt. Carmel / Cana / Nazareth / Tiberias

Travel via the coast to Caesarea where the Romans held Paul prisoner to visit the Roman and Crusader ruins.  In Haifa visit Stella Maris, a Carmelite Monastery containing the Madonna of Mt Carmel. Continue to Mukhraka where Elijah confronted the false prophets of Baal and where the Carmelite Order was started. Drive to Cana, the village of Jesus' first miracle of changing water into wine and visit the Wedding Church where couples may renew their wedding vows. Next we visit Nazareth to celebrate Mass in the Basilica of Annunciation, see Mary's Well and the Church of St. Joseph.  End the day at your hotel in Tiberias for dinner and overnight.

Day 03 -     Sea of Galilee / Capernaum / Mt. of Beatitudes / Caesarea Philippi

Today's highlights include a boat ride across the Sea of Galilee to Capernaum to see the synagogue and St Peter's house, a visit to the Mount of the Beatitudes where the Sermon on the Mount is remembered and where we celebrate Mass at one of the outdoor chapels.  Continue to Tabgha to see the splendid mosaic about the miracle of the loaves and fishes, and to the nearby Church of Peter's Primacy where Peter was told “Feed my lambs, feed my sheep."  In the afternoon we visit Caesarea Philippi, location of the testimony of St. Peter and where Jesus answered him “You are the Rock and upon this rock I will build my Church.”   Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 04–     Jordan River / Mt. Tabor / Sepphoris / Jerusalem

Begin the day at Mount Tabor, site of the Transfiguration, where we will celebrate Mass. Proceed to Sepphoris, a regional city at the time of Jesus and down the Jordan Valley to our hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

Day 05 –   Jerusalem / Ein Karem  

On the first day in Jerusalem we enjoy an overview for a better understanding of its geography and some of the key sites surrounding the area. This includes a dramatic view of the Old City from the Mount of Olives, revealing a city with 4000 years of history. From this vantage point see much of what makes Jerusalem such a unique city to the three major religions – Judaism, Christianity and Islam.  Walk the Palm Sunday route stopping at Dominus Flevit, where Jesus wept over Jerusalem.  Continue to the Garden of Gethsemane and visit the Church of All Nations.   Visit the Cave of Betrayal and the Cave of Assumption of Mary to heaven.   Visit the Church of Pater Noster containing the Lord’s Prayer in many languages before departing to the village of Ein Karem, the birthplace of St. John the Baptist and to the Church of the Visitation.  Return to your hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

Day 06 –    Old City of Jerusalem / Bethany  

Early this morning we retrace the last steps of Jesus as we walk along the Via Dolorosa (Way of Sorrow) through the markets of the Old City praying the Stations of the Cross.  Finally we arrive at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and celebrate Mass.  After breakfast at our hotel we return to the Old City of Jerusalem to visit St. Anne’s Church, pass the Ecce Homo Arch, visit the Wailing Wall, and see the nearby Dome of the Rock and the Temple Mount.  We exit at Mt Zion and continue to visit the Dormition Abbey and the Upper Room.  Continue to Bethany to see the Tomb of Lazarus before returning to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 07 –    Bethlehem / Jericho / Dead Sea

Drive to Bethlehem to visit the Shepherd's Field and the Church of the Nativity, traditional birthplace of Jesus where we celebrate Mass.   Continue to the oasis town of Jericho where we visit the excavations of the oldest city in the world and view the Mt. of Temptation where Jesus fasted and was tempted by Satan.   Next we visit Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered.  On the way back to Jerusalem there is time for a swim (or rather a float!) in the mineral-rich waters of the Dead Sea, renowned for its healing properties. In the afternoon, there will be time for you to revisit some of your favorite sites and time for last minute shopping for your loved ones.  End the day at your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 08 -     Jerusalem / Tel Aviv / Home

Transfer to the Tel Aviv airport for your flight home.

Depart via the Mediterranean coast to Caesarea which was built by Herod the Great and tour the theater, aqueduct and Crusader fortress.  Proceed to Megiddo in the Valley of Armageddon, focal point of the Book of Revelations.  After visiting these ancient ruins we depart to Muhraka, the traditional site where Elijah fought the false prophets of Baal.  End the day at your hotel in Tiberias for dinner and overnight.

Begin the day with a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee and a visit to Capernaum where Jesus spent much of his ministry and chose his first disciples.  Visit Tabgha, site of the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes.  Continue to the Mount of Beatitudes, site of the Sermon on the Mount, for a beautiful view of the entire Galilee.    Next we view the Golan Heights and visit Banias (ancient Caesarea Philipi) before returning to your hotel in Tiberias for dinner and overnight.

DAY 04 -      TIBERIAS / CANA / NAZARETH / BEIT SHEAN / JERUSALEM

Depart Tiberias to Cana where Jesus performed his first miracle of turning water into wine, and visit the Wedding Church where married couples may renew their vows.   Drive to Nazareth where the angel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary to announce the birth of Jesus.  Visit the Basilica of the Annunciation, Mary’s Well and Joseph’s Church.  Next we depart through the Jordan Valley to Beit Shean to explore the excavations of the ancient Roman city.    Continue to your hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

Jerusalem is a city holy to each of the world’s three great religions – Christianity, Judaism and Islam.  Our day begins with a visit to the Mount of Olives where we enjoy a panoramic view of the city of Jerusalem.  Continue to the Garden of Gethsemane and visit the Church of All Nations.  Next we visit the Old City of Jerusalem, the Wailing Wall and the Temple Mount.  See the Dome of the Rock, the Church of St. Anne, the Pool of Bethesda, Pilate’s Judgment Hall, the Chapel of Flagellation and the Ecce Homo Arch.   We walk the Via Dolorosa (Way of the Cross) through the narrow alleys and souks to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.  Continue to Mount Zion to visit Dormition Abbey, the Upper Room and the Tomb of King David.  Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 06 -      JERUSALEM / EIN KAREM / BETHLEHEM

Today begins with a visit to the Garden Tomb.  Drive by the Knesset (Israeli parliament) and the campus of the Hebrew University to visit the Israel Museum which contains a detailed model of Jerusalem from the time of the Second Temple and the Shrine of the Book which houses the Dead Sea Scrolls.  Continue to Ein Karem, home of John the Baptist, to visit the Church of the Visitation.  This afternoon we go to Bethlehem to visit the Shepherd’s Fields and the Church of the Nativity, traditional birthplace of Jesus.  Return to your hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

DAY 07 -      JERUSALEM / MASADA / QUMRAN / JERICHO / DEAD SEA

This morning we drive along the shores of the Dead Sea to Masada.  Ascend by cable car to visit the ruins and excavations of the hilltop fortress built by Herod the Great.  Next we visit Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered.  Continue to Jericho, the oldest city in the world, to visit the Mount of Temptation.  On our way back to Jerusalem we stop for a swim in the Dead Sea which has an unusually high concentration of salt.  Enjoy time to float and relax in the soothing waters before returning to our hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

DAY 08 -      JERUSALEM / TEL AVIV / HOME

You have an early morning departure to Tel Aviv airport and your flight home.

DAY 09 –     PETRA / AMMAN

Today you will tour the “rose-red” city of Petra beginning at the “Siq”, a winding canyon road.  See the Treasury, Petra’s most beautiful monument, carved from the solid rock of the surrounding mountains.  Discover soaring temples, royal tombs, burial chambers, water channels and a theatre.  Continue to your hotel in Amman for dinner and overnight.

DAY 10 –     AMMAN

Enjoy a tour of Jerash, one of the world’s best-preserved Greco-Roman cities.  See the Roman Forum, Temples of Artemis, Hadrian’s Arch, the Theatre and Street of Columns.  Continue your hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 11 –     AMMAN / HOME

DAY 11 –     CAIRO / PYRAMIDS AT GIZA / EGYPTIAN MUSEUM

Today you will see the Great Pyramids of Giza, the magnificent Sphinx and the Solar Boat Museum, containing the oldest known ship in the world.   This afternoon visit the Egyptian Museum which contains relics of 5,000 years of Egyptian civilization, including treasures from Tutankhamen’s tomb and the Mummy Room.  Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.  OPTIONAL NILE DINNER CRUISE IS AVAILABLE.

DAY 12 –     CAIRO / HOME

Transfer to the airport for your flight home.

This morning we drive along the shores of the Dead Sea to Masada.  Ascend by cable car to visit the ruins and excavations of the hilltop fortress built by Herod the Great.  Next we visit Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered.  Continue to Jericho, the oldest city in the world, to visit the Mount of Temptation.  On our way back to Jerusalem we stop for a swim in the Dead Sea which has an unusually high concentration of salt.  Enjoy time to float and relax in the soothing waters before returning to our hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

DAY 08 -      JERUSALEM / PETRA

This morning we transfer to the Allenby bridge and cross into Jordan for a visit to Mt. Nebo where Moses viewed the Promised Land.  Continue to Madaba to see the mosaic map of the Holy Land, and on to Petra, built by the Nabateans over 2,000 years ago.  End the day at your hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 09 –     PETRA / AMMAN

Today you will tour the “rose-red” city of Petra beginning at the “Siq”, a winding canyon road.  See the Treasury, Petra’s most beautiful monument, carved from the solid rock of the surrounding mountains.  Discover soaring temples, royal tombs, burial chambers, water channels and a theatre.  Continue to your hotel in Amman for dinner and overnight.

DAY 10 –     AMMAN / CAIRO

Enjoy a tour of Jerash, one of the world’s best-preserved Greco-Roman cities.  See the Roman Forum, Temples of Artemis, Hadrian’s Arch, the Theatre and Street of Columns.  Continue to Ajloun, Saladin’s mountaintop castle before departing to the airport for your flight to Cairo.  Upon arrival into Cairo you will be met and transferred to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 11 –     PYRAMIDS / SPHINX / EGYPTIAN MUSEUM

Today you will see the Great Pyramids of Giza, the magnificent Sphinx and the Solar Boat Museum, containing the oldest known ship in the world.   This afternoon visit the Egyptian Museum which contains relics of 5,000 years of Egyptian civilization, including treasures from Tutankhamen’s tomb and the Mummy Room.  Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 12 –     CAIRO

Today’s tour of Cairo includes the Citadel of Saladin, the Mosque of Mohammed Ali, Old Cairo, the Coptic Church and the Khan el-Khalil bazaars.  Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.  OPTIONAL NILE DINNER CRUISE IS AVAILABLE.

DAY 13 -      CAIRO / HOME

Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
